lake-expressLast month we wrote about the kids ride free promotion that the Lake Express was running during the months of May and June.  Recently, they decided to extend the offer for the rest of the summer!  Through the end of August, kids ride free on the ferry when accompanied by a paying adult.  The high speed car ferry travels between Milwaukee and Muskegon, Michigan 2 times daily through the end of June, and then 3 times daily through the end of August.  Taking the ferry to Michigan this summer could be a unique alternative to your normal summer vacation plans.

A round trip fare on the Lake Express for kids between the ages of 5 and 17 is usually $78. With the special, a family of four can ride round trip between Milwaukee and Musekgon for $296.  As a comparison, Wisconsin’s other Lake Michigan car ferry, the S.S. Badger out of Manitowoc charges $340 for a round trip voyage for 2 adults and 2 kids.

You can bring your car along for an additional $165, roundtrip. Lake Express also has car rentals available from Hertz at the Milwaukee and Muskegon terminals. Depending on your length of stay, renting a car may be more economical. We checked some random dates, and were able to find car rentals for as little as $37.50 per day.

More information on this special deal can be found on the Lake Express website.
